About Us

W.J.Hatt Limited was established by Jack Hatt in 1937. Originally concentrating on agricultural contract work and demolitions. Over the years the firm expanded into the construction of lakes and ponds, the installation of water schemes, land drainage solutions, and the design & creation of water features. We also specialise in fixing water leaks and burst pipes, mainly in the Berkshire and Oxfordshire area.

In 1976 Mark Hatt joined his father in the company. His experience in many fields of civil engineering, both in the UK and abroad, came in extremely useful. Upon Jack’s retirement in the mid-’90s, Mark took over running the business together with his wife Pauline. Pauline’s expertise lies in both horticulture and landscaping.

For many years their son Oliver worked in the South West of England for a major groundworks firm. Here he carried out work in a range of fields, including foundation concreting, drainage, road construction and landscaping. In 2011 Oliver moved back to Berkshire and became the third generation to join the company.

Just before the pandemic hit in March 2020, Mark took a well-earned retirement and Oliver took over the company with his wife Liv. Liv has a background in project management, so is perfectly suited to the day-to-day behind-the-scenes running of the firm. She is based in the office full-time, along with Anne Hatt (yet another relation!), who works part-time. It will be one of these two friendly voices who answers the phone when you call in!

The company operates mainly in the Home Counties, using its own equipment operated by permanent long-term staff. We also work closely with a number of hand-picked external suppliers. Visit this page to learn more about our affiliates.
