Foul Drainage & Stormwater Management Systems

W.J. Hatt are an experienced septic tank and sewage treatment plant installer. We both design & install foul water and storm water drainage systems of every size. Over the years we have worked for a range of clients in many different situations, including:

  • private individuals for their own houses (existing properties and new builds),
  • estates (& landlords) with multiple properties,
  • schools,
  • farms,
  • holiday lets & holiday cottages,
  • campsites & caravan parks,
  • pubs, cafés & farm shops,
  • breweries,
  • and many more…
WE UNDERTAKE A VARIETY OF DRAINAGE & SEWERAGE WORK, SUCH AS:
  • Install new sewage treatment systems and drainage fields (soakaways).
  • Replace old or upgrade existing foul drainage systems.
  • Upgrade or repair failing, leaking or inadequate foul drainage pipe networks.
  • Dredge ponds, lakes and blocked or overgrown drainage ditches & culverts.
  • Diagnose stormwater drainage issues and provide options for rectification.
  • Install underground land drainage solutions to remove water from areas of saturated ground.

If there are any other sewage or drainage problems you have that are not mentioned here, please do get in touch. Our experts are always willing to assist and try their best to find the right solution for you.

For example, we recently met with the community growers at Oxford City Farm after they experienced the devasting effects of floodwater during September 2024’s excessive rainfall. Our MD Oliver Hatt helped them devise a plan to alleviate future water problems across the farm and prevent this from happening again. You can read about their upcoming “Flood Mitigation Project” here.

FURTHER METHODS OF WORK:

As well as being a new septic tank and sewage treatment plant installer, W.J. Hatt also carries out drainage field (soakaway) design and build for existing sewerage systems. This would be either for when an existing soakaway is failing and needs replacing, or when a septic tank or cesspool is being updated and requires discharge into a new drainage field.

We also install pumping stations and their associated pipework for untreated sewerage connections to the mains drain (such as the Thames Water sewer system). The major advantage of these systems is that they run on pumps, instead of gravity, so pipework can run for miles to reach a main sewer where required. Alternatively, when gravity-fed drainage fields are simply not appropriate, we can install smaller pumping stations to carry treated sewage for individual properties.

CONSULTANCY & SUPPLIERS:

We offer a complete consultancy service that includes design of the most suitable wastewater system for the situtation. We have excellent connections with first-class manufacturers, such as Harlequin Plastics, Marsh Industries, and Klargester (Kingspan), ensuring that our products come directly from the best sources. This means that we can keep up to date with the latest environmental requirements, only installing systems appropriate for specific ground conditions and space restrictions. Read more about our partnership here.

Foul Drainage
We can carry out repairs or replacements for all types of broken, damaged, or inappropriate pipework. We can install manholes and gully traps for both foul and waste water on new builds, as well as install any configuration of drainage, tailoring systems to your requirements. All pipework is installed in conjunction with lasers to ensure that falls are exact.

Further information on drainage & flooding:

Over our 87 years of trading, W.J. Hatt has always dealt with drainage problems using a pragmatic approach. The addition of modern materials, resources and technology continues to make our drainage works ever more efficient. As flooding proves to be a pertinent issue in Britain, properly installed and maintained ditches, culverts and underground pipes become essential. Effective functionality is the driving force behind any successful flood prevention system and we pride ourselves on selecting the correct method of discharge for such large quantities of water in any scenario. Furthermore, drainage schemes must continue to work with as little maintenance as possible. When it comes to cost effective drainage solutions, there is simply no substitute for experience.
